When it all seems....overwhelming

When it all seems....overwhelming

We all have times where everything just feels overwhelming. Too busy, too disorganized, too many deadlines, too much pressure.

How do we combat this, and maintain our sanity?

There are many different ways to help yourself, but first, you must identify the root of the problem. Are you feeling stressed? why? Do you feel disorganized? Are there too many deadlines within a short period of time?

What can we do to manage stress? This is a very personal answer. Each of us has specific things that help us feel more relaxed- maybe a long, hot bath, an hour reading a good book, going outside for a hike- the list of self-care tasks is endless! I recommend choosing 1 thing that helps you relax, and then sitting down afterwards, and creating a plan (with a clear, relaxed mind), about how you are going manage the feelings of chaos.

I like to make lists- lots of lists- everywhere- about everything. So, when I feel overwhelmed, I start with a Brain Dump (to get rid of all the clutter, and make some space in my mind), and then I start making lists. A list of the tasks that are most important, somewhat important, and less important. This way I can prioritize my time on the things that matter most- right now.

Forming positive, organizational habits can also help to minimize those 'overwhelmed' feelings in the future. Habits such as making your bed every morning, and taking the dirty laundry to the washer- before making your morning coffee. Or making sure to load the dishwasher/ wash the dishes before bedtime each night, so that you can wake up to a clean kitchen in the morning.

It is important to acknowledge the feelings of becoming overwhelmed, and where they are stemming from, so that you can take steps to minimize those feelings in the future.
